Privacy policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Buchanan Albert ("Buchanan Albert", "we", "us" or "our") collects, uses, shares and protects your personal information when you visit or place an order through buchanan-albert.com (the "Site"). It applies to customers in the United States, which is the only market we currently sell to and ship to.
We treat the information you share with us with the same care we bring to choosing the pieces we sell. The sections below set out exactly what we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights available to you. By using the Site or placing an order, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information in three ways.
Information you provide to us. When you place an order, create an account, sign up for our emails, or contact our team, you may give us your name, billing and shipping addresses, email address, phone number, order details, and payment information. Payment card details are entered through our payment provider and are not stored on our own servers.
Information we collect automatically. When you browse the Site, we automatically log certain technical information, including your IP address, device type, browser and operating system, referring pages, the pages and products you view, the paths you take through the Site, and the dates and times of your visits.
Information from cookies and similar technologies. We and our partners place cookies and similar technologies on your device to keep the Site working, remember the contents of your basket, measure performance, and deliver advertising that is likely to be relevant to you. Section 5 explains this in more detail.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Process and fulfil your orders, take payment, and arrange delivery
- Send order confirmations, dispatch notifications and tracking details
- Respond to your enquiries, return requests and customer service messages
- Operate, maintain, secure and improve the Site
- Personalise your experience and refine the products and content we show you
- Send marketing emails where you have chosen to receive them, and measure how our campaigns perform
- Detect, investigate and prevent fraud, abuse and other unlawful activity
- Meet our obligations under tax, accounting, consumer protection and other applicable laws
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information for money. We share information only where it is needed to run our business and provide our service, with the following categories of recipient:
- Payment processors, who securely capture your payment details and process the transaction
- Shipping and fulfilment partners, who need your name and delivery address to pick, pack and deliver your order
- Technology and platform providers, such as our ecommerce platform and email provider, who host the Site and support our communications with you
- Analytics and advertising partners, including Google and Meta, who help us understand how the Site is used and show our advertising to relevant audiences
- Professional advisers and authorities, where we are required to share information to comply with the law, enforce our terms, or protect our rights, our customers or the public
Each partner may use your information only for the purpose we engage them for. Please note that our use of advertising and analytics cookies to deliver targeted advertising may be treated as "sharing" or a "sale" of personal information under some U.S. state privacy laws, even though no money changes hands. You can opt out of this as described in sections 5 and 6.
4. Your Privacy Choices and Rights
Depending on the state in which you live, you may have some or all of the following rights in relation to the personal information we hold about you:
- The right to know what personal information we have collected and to request a copy of it
- The right to ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information
- The right to request deletion of your personal information, subject to legal exceptions
- The right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information and of targeted advertising
- The right to opt out of marketing emails at any time, using the unsubscribe link in any email or by contacting us
- The right not to be treated differently for exercising any of these rights
If you are a California resident, these rights include those provided under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act. Residents of other states with comprehensive privacy laws may have similar rights. To exercise any right, contact us using the details at the end of this policy. We may need to verify your identity before responding, and you may use an authorised agent where the law allows.
5. Cookies and Similar Technologies
We use the following broad categories of cookies and similar technologies:
- Essential cookies, needed for core functions such as keeping you signed in and holding the contents of your basket
- Performance and analytics cookies, which give us aggregated information about how visitors use the Site so we can improve it
- Advertising cookies, which we and partners such as Google Ads and Meta use to measure and deliver marketing that is more likely to be relevant to you, including retargeting
You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings, and you can refuse non-essential cookies where we offer a cookie banner or preference tool. Turning off certain cookies may affect how parts of the Site work. We honour recognised browser-based opt-out signals, including the Global Privacy Control, where the law requires us to.
6. Online Advertising Opt-Outs
You can limit interest-based advertising directly with the platforms we use and through industry tools:
- Google Ads and Google Analytics: adjust your settings on Google's Ads Settings and account privacy pages, or install Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on
- Meta (Facebook and Instagram): adjust your ad preferences within your Meta account settings
- The industry opt-out pages run by the Digital Advertising Alliance and the Network Advertising Initiative
7. How Long We Keep Your Information
We keep personal information only for as long as it is needed for the purposes set out in this policy. This includes the time required to provide our service to you, to keep proper financial and tax records, to resolve disputes, and to enforce our agreements. When information is no longer needed, we delete it or anonymise it.
8. How We Protect Your Information
We use a combination of technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or loss, including secure, encrypted checkout. No method of transmission over the internet or of electronic storage is completely secure, so while we work hard to protect your information we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Children's Privacy
The Site is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
10. Links to Other Websites
The Site may contain links to websites operated by others. When you follow a link to an external site, you leave Buchanan Albert, and we have no control over, and accept no responsibility for, the privacy practices or content of that site. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of any site you visit.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, our service, or the law. When we do, we will post the revised version on this page with a new effective date. We encourage you to review this page periodically so you stay informed about how we handle your information.
